San Diego Unified voting on resolution to support homeless students

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — On Tuesday, the San Diego Unified School District’s Board of Education will vote on a resolution to support students and their families who are experiencing homelessness.

The resolution, introduced by student trustee Ashley Ordaz and trustee Sabrina Bazzo, asks for the district to recognize November as Runaway and Homeless Youth Awareness Month. It also calls on elected officials in the County of San Diego to recognize the needs of young people experiencing homelessness to help them succeed.

Inclement weather shelters activated in San Diego due to rainstorms

The resolution states that children and youth experiencing homelessness need access to care and mental health services, technology, hygiene, food, shelter and safety.
