Austin woman sentenced for embezzling nearly $300K from Killeen Housing Authority

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin woman has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from the Killeen Housing Authority (KHA) while serving as its executive director, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Court records show Deadra Johnson, 53, used agency funds for personal expenses, including rent, utilities, vehicle maintenance, airline tickets and furniture. Prosecutors said she also used some of the money to buy a new vehicle and concealed the theft through a series of kickback schemes.
