APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – After impounding three motorized dirt bikes overnight, the Appleton Police Department issued a stern warning to the community over the illegal operation of the vehicles on city streets.

According to the release, officers have responded to an ‘increase’ in complaints concerning groups of people recklessly operating motorized dirt bikes or similar vehicles throughout neighborhoods, intersections and business areas.
Officers say that many of the reported incidents prompted police pursuits as riders fled from law enforcement during attempted traffic stops, with others leading to injury-riddled crashes.
The release comes after the Appleton Police Department said it impounded three motorized dirt bike-style vehicles since Monday night that were connected to the ongoing incidents.

The following warnings and statements were issued as well, raising community awareness:
- Motorized dirt bikes, mini-bikes, electric motorcycles and off-road vehicles are not street legal unless they have been properly registered/equipped
- Fleeing from police is a felony offense and will be fully investigated
- Reckless riding, excessive noise and unsafe actions are public nuisances that could lead to impoundment, citation or further legal actions
