CLEARWATER, Kan. (KSNW) – A potential solar farm spanning nearly 1,500 acres may be coming to Sedgwick County. A California-based company wants to put the panels on agricultural land between Clearwater and Haysville. The idea is in its early stages, but it is already stirring up controversy.
Monday, Mission Clean Energy, the company behind the project, held an open house and informational meeting. Hosted at Klausmeyer Dairy Farm, the barn-turned-conference hall was crowded with people from the surrounding areas as they made their anxieties known.
Company representatives say this project has been in the works since 2023 and would be built entirely on private land. Around 10 property owners have agreed to lease or sell that land for the solar farm, which would have a 35-year life span after becoming operational…
