Mayor signs new traffic code into law in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Mayor Tim Keller signed a new ordinance into law Tuesday to enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians in Albuquerque.

The ordinance updates the city’s traffic code for the first time since 1974. It was influenced by community concerns following the death of 19-year-old Kayla Vanlandingham, a bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle in July.

“This law honors Kayla, and every family who has endured the heartbreak of losing a loved one on our roads,” said Keller. “This bill is about strengthening protections for all roadway users.”…
