Three-county crime spree ends in deputy injury and suspect shot, officials say

COLUMBIA, S.C. — New information is emerging about a crime spree that law enforcement says spanned three counties and ended Saturday in Calhoun County with an Orangeburg County deputy injured and a suspect shot.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says 32-year-old Steven Townsend carjacked a victim at 7 a.m. Saturday. A sheriff’s department incident report News 19 obtained said it happened on Blythewood Road.
