Stockton Rescue Mission Snags $1.5M Lifeline To Open Homeless Recovery Hub

San Joaquin County supervisors have signed off on a fresh $1.5 million to finally finish the Gospel Center Rescue Mission’s New Life Program Multi-Purpose Center in Stockton, a project county leaders say will bring hundreds of recovery beds and medical recuperative care online while easing pressure on local emergency rooms and jails. The money lands just as the mission works through the last stretch of construction on a nearly complete building that staff say will mean more privacy and dedicated program space for residents, according to San Joaquin County.

The Board approved the new allocation using interest earned on American Rescue Plan Act funds, bringing San Joaquin County’s total investment in the project to $3.5 million, according to San Joaquin County. County documents say the extra $1.5 million also unlocks a separate $2 million commitment from the Federal Home Loan Bank that had been contingent on the site’s completion. “This is more than a building,” Board Chair Paul Canepa said in the county release, framing the move as a practical way to chip away at long-term public costs…
