Police Investigate Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Deanwood Neighborhood

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on the evening of November 17, 2025, in the Deanwood neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C. The incident happened around 8:00 p.m. Sixth District officers and members of the DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force were patrolling the 4700 block of Minnesota Avenue in response to community concerns about recent gunfire.

During the patrol, officers encountered 25-year-old David Warren Childs. Police state that Childs was armed. When officers approached, Childs fled on foot. A chase and a brief struggle followed in the 1200 block of 47 Place, Northeast. According to police, officers gave commands to stop and show his hands.
