More frustrations expressed over New Mexico Fairgrounds’ potential redevelopment

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — The future of the state fairgrounds is still up in the air, but residents nearby on Tuesday are expressing their frustrations. Planners displayed different poster boards of the research they have on the state fairgrounds and surrounding community, showing pedestrian safety ideas, what buildings are considered historic and protected on expo grounds.

About a couple hundred people showed up to the town hall. Many opposed the idea. “We would really like to see the fairgrounds stay here… As a constituent of this community, as a representative,” said one resident.

Planners are preparing for a third community engagement meeting in January. They are expected to share four concepts for the area that includes housing and entertainment, with one of the options keeping the fairgrounds there…
