‘Last chance’ to turn in illegal fireworks this weekend in Waipahu

WAIPAHU, Oahu (KHON2) — State law enforcement officials say this weekend’s fireworks buy-back is your last chance to do the right thing. They say after this, they’ll be increasing patrols in neighborhoods to try and catch offenders with plans to prosecute them to the fullest.

“That was beyond tragic,” said Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “And so anything that we can possibly do to keep our place safe, keep the holidays joyous, that’s what we wanna do.”

The state Department of Law Enforcement is hosting another fireworks buy-back event this weekend to collect as many illegal fireworks as possible. The previous event didn’t pull in as much as officials would’ve hoped – possibly because the public wasn’t sure if it was really “no questions asked”…
