Wastewater treatment plant exceeds discharge limit into Kailua waters

KAILUA, Hawaii (Island News) — The public is advised to avoid the Kailua Bay waters after an excessive amount of wastewater was discharged into the area.

A sample was collected on Monday, Nov. 17, in the waters near the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) Wastewater Treatment Plant’s ocean outfall. The discharge of wastewater exceeded the daily maximum permitted for a fecal indicator bacteria level.

MCBH has posted warning signs for the affected waters which should not be entered until further notice…
