Former nanny appears in federal court, faces charges that could bring life sentence

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A former Mount Pleasant nanny accused of exploiting children in his care appeared in federal court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Brandon Brill, 26, is facing a 10-count federal indictment alleging he used his position as a childcare provider to produce and attempt to produce child sexual abuse material, as well as coerce and entice minors. The offenses involved children he babysat or lived near, and could carry a potential life sentence if he is convicted, prosecutors said.

Federal authorities announced in July that Brill’s alleged actions date back to at least June 2023. Investigators say Brill often invited children to his home for video games and sleepovers, using the opportunity to exploit at least six minors.
