Evansville Roads Rank Among the Worst in the United States

Would it suprise you much that Evansville, Indiana ranked among the 30 cities in America where vehicles experience higher rates of road-related repairs?

Indiana is known as “The Crossroads of America,” mainly because the city of Indianapolis is the hub for several major Interstate highways that crisscross the state, connecting Hoosiers to the rest of the United States. Recently, the state of Indiana was named the state with the best road quality in America. While that study shocked a lot of Hoosiers, I feel like the findings in a recent study might not lead to quite the debate. Especially for those of us here in Evansville who have driven around during “pothole season.”

Winters in the Midwest can be pretty brutal for our roadways. For those who don’t know, potholes form when snow and ice melt and seep through the road. Then, when the temperature drops again, the water in the ground begins to freeze. Once that happens, it begins to expand and causes the road to start cracking, thus leading to those dreaded potholes that we all do our best to try to avoid on the road. However, sometimes, you either don’t see the pothole or there’s just no way to avoid it.

We all know that sound and feeling of hitting a pothole. That cluck and bump when you hit a pothole can be jarring for several reasons. It can catch you off guard especially if you didn’t see the pothole coming, then you start to wonder if it caused any damage to your vehicle. As you know, hitting a pothole can cause a lot of damage with a hefty repair cost. Hitting a pothole can pop your tire, damage your wheel and rims, throw off your alignment, ruin the engine or exhaust system, and ruin your vehicle’s shocks and struts. None of those things are anything you want to have to repair. To give you an idea of how much repairs from potholes will cost you, QuoteWizard.com reports that the average repair bill for pothole accidents is around $306. That’s a good chunk of change! That’s also not the greatest news for us here in the Evansville area, based on a recent study

Evansville Among Worst Roads in America

A recent study from Pep Boys, analyzed service data from thousands of its tire and auto service centers across the country to reveal where drivers experience higher-than-average repair activity. These repairs include things like wheel alignments, suspension, tire damage, and balancing jobs. The study found the 30 cities and areas across the U.S. where vehicles experience higher rates of road-related repairs. Surprise, surprise…Evansville is among that list.

The city of Evansville was listed 14th in the cities with the worst roads, according to the Pep Boys study. Considering the amount of potholes we see in the Evansville area, does this come as a shock to you? It’s not just the potholes either. Other examples could include uneven pavement, cracks, bumps, and frequent constructions could lead to road-related repairs.

Evansville wasn’t the only Indiana city on this list, however. Lafayette came in at number four. Let’s just be grateful that we don’t live in Florida though. Florida led the with 7 repair-heavy markets. You can learn more about that study by clicking here.
