Advocates fear Tennesseans will lose health care due to TennCare cuts

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Many East Tennesseans are already bracing for the loss of Affordable Care Act tax credits that saved families thousands of dollars and TennCare cuts will make the issue worse.

President Trump’s signature bill cut nearly $1 trillion for Medicaid, which will impact Tennessee’s Medicaid program known as TennCare. While the administration said its goal is to cut waste, some estimates show it could lead up to 100,000 Tennesseans to lose their health care.

“When these rural hospitals close, they’re the largest employers in that in that area and so many businesses depend upon them. It guts rural Tennessee when we when we play politics with health care,” said Michelle Johnson, the Executive Director of the Tennessee Justice Center.

The Tennessee Justice Center warns that nine rural hospitals in Tennessee could close due to President Trump’s signature “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”…
