Rutherford County faces deadline to fix property tax record errors or face legal action

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has given the Rutherford County Property Assessor’s Office until Thursday, Nov. 26, to complete corrections to property tax records or face possible legal action.

In a letter dated Nov. 12, Comptroller officials said the office had completed less than half of the required corrections to parcels flagged earlier this year. The findings came after the Division of Property Assessments determined on June 2 that 11.3% of parcels sampled contained inaccuracies. The list of properties needing correction was shared with the assessor’s office on Aug. 28.
