Local IRSC Leaders Honored with Statewide Recognition for Achievements in Athletics and Arts

On November 19, 2025, Indian River State College (IRSC) in Fort Pierce, Florida, announced that two of its leaders received recognition from the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA). Scott Kimmelman, Athletics Director, was inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame. Alex Kanter, Associate Dean and Director of Theatre and Dance, was honored for his service on the FCSAA Executive Committee for the 2024-2025 term. Rob Chaney, Associate Director and Athletics Commissioner, presented the awards during the college’s Board of Trustees meeting.

Scott Kimmelman began his career at IRSC in October 1993 as an Assistant Coach for the swimming and diving program. He became head coach in 2002 and led the men’s and women’s teams to several NJCAA National Championships from 2003 to 2006. Under his leadership, the men’s team won 51 consecutive national titles, and the women’s team won 43 straight championships. Kimmelman became Director of Athletics in 2006 and has overseen all IRSC sports, including the softball team’s NJCAA World Series win in 2024.

Kimmelman has earned 26 National Championships as a coach and 40 more as an administrator. He has received honors such as NJCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year and was inducted into the NJCAA Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame.
