County officials, homeless advocates call on state to adjust temporary assistance rates

Local leaders and advocates for the homeless population say outdated temporary assistance rates make it difficult for struggling famlies to get back on their feet.

Homeless families in New York receive temporary assistance based on what they call the “standard of need,” which factors in their county of residence, household size and earned income from a job. There are a variety of allowances like basic needs, home energy and a shelter allowance.
