NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The city of Norfolk has begun work on a $1.9 million bike lane along Granby Street.

Work crews Tuesday were putting down heavy green paint to mark the bike lane on part of Granby Street, and that paint will be put down for about two miles, all the way north to Admiral Taussig Boulevard, and then it heads back to the Granby Street Bridge.
“What is the purpose of the green paint? It is to identify that the lane is for the bike lane, and the green area all the way to the bus stop, but it is still specifying that this is a bike lane,” said supervisor Joe Harvey.
Another change coming: On Thursdays, residents need to change the way they put out the trash. You have to put the cans past the bike lane or else the trash truck won’t be able to reach it, so there are striped areas, called buffer areas, in which the trash cans must be placed…
