Scooter Rider Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Downtown Austin Marks City’s 84th Traffic Death This Year

A 22-year-old man, identified as Alexander William Gonzalo, tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter in downtown Austin. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning and marks the city’s 84th fatal crash this year, a stark indicator of ongoing traffic safety challenges.

According to CBS Austin, Gonzalo was hit at the intersection of West 5th Street and Rio Grande Street at approximately 1:29 a.m. Despite promptly receiving medical attention, Gonzalo was later pronounced dead in the hospital the following day.
