First look: The Woodlands’ new apartment high-rise raises the ceiling on suburban luxury — and rents

The Woodlands’ first apartment high-rise isn’t trying to stand out. It’s trying to belong, even as it raises the bar for luxury rentals in Houston’s suburbs.

Rising 13 stories, 1 Riva Row became the tallest apartment tower in the affluent suburb when it opened this month north of Houston. It also commands what are likely among some of the highest apartment rents in The Woodlands, with prices ranging from $2,000 for a studio to $11,500 for the best penthouse.

Yet much like everything else in the master-planned community, Howard Hughes’ $156 million project doesn’t feel out of place, even with its height, rents and touches of gleaming glass. Pine trees preserved along the project’s edges mirror the wooded streets that define The Woodlands. In the front, a classic brick and limestone façade echo materials seen in nearby homes. In the back, a patio with firepits and landscaping eases the transition into a waterfront trail below…
