Man to serve 2 decades in prison for murdering man outside DC gas station

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A man will sit behind bars for more than two decades after he shot a man in the head in broad daylight outside of a Citgo gas station in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C. announced that 45-year-old Damon McQuarters was sentenced on Oct. 24 to 22 years for the murder of Michael Simpson.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that minutes after 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2024, McQuarters approached Simpson, who was sitting on the sidewalk in front of the Citgo gas station on Minnesota Avenue NE. Simpson was socializing with friends when McQuarters pulled a gun from his shorts pocket and shot Simpson in the head.

Simpson was taken to the hospital, where he died the next day…
