Suspect identified in West Valley City officer-involved shooting

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Law enforcement has identified the suspect they took into custody after an officer-involved shooting.

According to the West Valley City Police Department (WVCPD), the suspect they took into custody is 25-year-old Stephen Lopez.

Lopez had been asked to leave a nearby homeless shelter that he was staying in and then used his vehicle to ram into an officer’s vehicle at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The responding officer fired shots at Lopez’s vehicle.

Lopez was not hit and fled the scene, before returning to the shelter parking lot, where he was taken into custody.

WVCPD says Lopez has been booked for aggravated assault (a third-degree felony), theft of a motor vehicle (second-degree felony), failure to stop (third-degree felony), and an accident (Class A Misdemeanor)…
