A doctor and her husband in Anchorage have pleaded guilty to a $12.5 million health care fraud scheme, as well as evading more than $4 million in taxes.
Dr. Claribel Tan, 61, and her husband Daniel Tan, 70, ran a rheumatology clinic in Anchorage. According to court documents, they routinely underdosed patients or used free samples and expired medications while billing insurance for full doses, defrauding more than 10 insurance plans of over $12 million.
Investigators say the couple also falsified tax records and failed to report income, costing the IRS more than $4 million. Federal authorities seized over $10 million in proceeds and the Tans have agreed to additional restitution and civil settlements…
