BARBERTON — In the wake of resident blowback over a proposed data center in the City of Norton, and Norton City Council’s subsequent introduction of a 180-day moratorium on data centers Nov. 3, Barberton City Council has approved an indefinite moratorium on data centers.
Prior to the Nov. 10 vote, Barberton resident Dan Bogart said he would like Council to take more time on crafting the moratorium language to better define what a data center is, pointing out that these facilities — which are used to house computer and other telecommunications and storage systems — can vary greatly in both size and power requirements.
