Asheville City Council Approves Key Recovery Measures After Tropical Storm Helene

At the November 18, 2024, Asheville City Council meeting, members discussed several agenda items related to recovery from Tropical Storm Helene. The Council focused on restoring city infrastructure, services, and community engagement after the storm.

The Council unanimously approved a lease for new Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) staff offices at 599 Tunnel Road. The lease with TPI Land Investment LLC provides 13,361 square feet for office, maintenance, and storage. APR Director D. Tyrell McGirt said the new facility will help the team work more efficiently. The previous maintenance facility was destroyed by the storm, and staff have been working from multiple locations for over a year.

The Council also approved a contract with Bullington Construction, Inc. to repair and replace about 2,700 feet of guardrail damaged by the storm.
