Hamilton County Commissioners delay vote on senior property tax freeze to next summer

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Hamilton County Commissioners voted tonight to delay a new property tax freeze for seniors in the county.

The proposal, introduced last week by Commissioner David Sharpe, would adopt a state law from 2007 to prevent property tax bills for people over 65 from going up.

Sharpe previously said there’s a growing need for the freeze, arguing many seniors are on a fixed income that cannot keep up with inflation.
