MDOT Update on US-127 Lanes and Ramps Near Lansing

I think we can all agree that we have been dodging barrels on US-127 this year. In fact, there was a point I believed I was actually going through a construction zone at one point. The Michigan Department of Transportation does say there is some good news in store for us.

Where US-127 Construction Is Happening

They’re getting ready to flip traffic back to its normal pattern on the south side of Lansing, but it’s going to come with one more round of lane and road closures… of course.

Crews have been rebuilding the southbound lanes of US-127 between I-69 and I-496 since March. The northbound got the same treatment previously last year. The project is one part of a grand scheme to upgrade the US-127 corridor from the Ingham/Jackson County line up to the I-496 interchange.

When MDOT Will Shift Traffic Back

The big traffic shift will happen when MDOT temporarily closes multiple ramps and lanes starting on Thursday night and into the weekend. Drivers should expect a single-lane closure on southbound US-127 between Forrest and Dunckel. You can also expect short-term closures on I-496 and I-96 as crews move traffic back to where it belongs and remove the barrier wall.

Lane and Ramp Closures to Watch

MDOT says there will still be intermittent single-lane closures in both directions over the next few weeks while crews finish punch-list work and wrap up lane markings. Some ramps around Kalamazoo Street, Trowbridge Road, Dunckel, and the I-96/US-127 interchange will also see some brief closures in December…
