RIPTA gets $25M for more hybrid buses

Rhode Island’s congressional delegation announced Tuesday that the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will receive $25 million in federal funding to grow its hybrid electric bus fleet.

Funding comes from the Federal Highway Administration’s Low or No Emission Grant Program, created under the 2022 bipartisan infrastructure law. The program is meant to help transit agencies buy or lease low- or no-emission buses and other advanced vehicles, supporting cleaner, more energy-efficient service nationwide, according to the announcement from U.S. Sen.
