New four-legged caregiver brings comfort to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — There’s a new kind of caregiver at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She has four paws, a wagging tail, and a whole lot of love.

Boomer, a 2-year-old yellow Lab/Golden Retriever mix, is the hospital’s newest full-time facility dog, specially trained to bring comfort and calm to young patients.

Boomer works alongside her handler, Natalie Schmidt, a Child Life Specialist who says the pup has a unique way of easing stress for children facing difficult procedures…
