Sumner County jury convicts man of attempting to molest child, assaulting family

Following a three-day jury trial in Sumner County Circuit Court, Assistant District Attorneys General Nathan Nichols and Parker Sewell secured convictions on Nov. 19 against Omar Malik Lundy, 30, of Alabaster, Ala., related to his attempts to entice a 12-year-old Sumner County child to engage in sexual intercourse with him and the subsequent aggravated assaults of his victim’s family.

Evidence was presented to the jury which showed that Lundy initiated contact with a 12-year-old Sumner County child via YouTube by posting a flattering comment about her under a video she shared on the platform. After this initial interaction, Lundy and the victim began regularly communicating online and via text. During all of his communications with the victim, Lundy presented himself to the victim as a 15-year-old juvenile.

As time passed, Lundy began sexually grooming the victim, solicited nude photos from her and repeatedly pressured her to meet in person. After initially rebuffing Lundy’s requests to meet in person, the victim eventually relented and provided her home address to Lundy…
