Babysitter arrested in 2019 death of northeast Columbus infant

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — An arrest has been made in connection to the death of a northeast Columbus infant which occurred in 2019.

According to an incident summary released by Columbus police, the death of Ridley Cecil-Wienke was ruled a homicide, six and a half years after the baby was brought to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

On April 2, 2019, detectives were called to the hospital on reports of an infant suffering from a “catastrophic injury”. Cecil-Wienke was pronounced dead shortly thereafter and at the time of the incident, he was in the care of his babysitter, 32-year-old Alicia McLaughlin.

Police said McLaughlin’s description of what happened that day in the Riverside neighborhood was not consistent with the injuries suffered by the baby, prompting a review of the case to be conducted by CPD and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office…
