Freeland Estate auction launches with hundreds of items as mansion nears sale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — An auction for hundreds of items from the Freeland Estate is underway, giving potential buyers an opportunity to purchase from one of northeast Indiana’s most renowned properties.

This auction, which opened on Wednesday and runs through December 15, is offering over 600 pieces collected over decades. Auction organizers Wiegmann Auctioneers say this is the first of several planned sales tied to Freeland Estate.

The Freeland Estate, now known as The Hamilton, is auctioning an array of fine art, decor, collectibles, and furnishings from decades spanning as old as the Victorian era. These items now open to the public include:

  • Fine art and décor, such as large oil paintings, stained glass pieces, and a 19th-century Napoleon III-style gilded floor easel.
  • Asian and European porcelain, including large Famille Rose vases, Satsuma bowls, Meissen-style pieces, Limoges, Haviland, and Austrian porcelain.
  • High-end crystal, featuring Lalique, Baccarat, Waterford, Moser, Val St. Lambert, and Swarovski.
  • A 40+ piece Jay Strongwater collection, boxed and tagged, which Weigmann says is one of the most anticipated items.
  • Collectibles ranging from Jackie Robinson Louisville Slugger bats and a 1930s Watling 5-cent slot machine to vintage Louis Vuitton Pullman suitcases and Pizza Hut memorabilia.
  • Furniture and oversized décor, including Victorian and Louis XVI pieces, wicker seating, carved garden roosters, and large Chinese porcelain vases.
  • Cast iron and kitchenware, with Griswold, Wagner, and Lodge cookware, plus All-Clad and Calphalon sets, mixers, raosters, and serving pieces.
  • Lighting and unique décor, such as Victorian oil lamps, an Art Deco bronze lamp, folk-art carvings, and taxidermy items.

Wiegmann encourages those who are interested to carefully inspect and review terms regarding item previews, pickup arrangements, and payment policies. Those interested in the auction can find it on Wiegmann’s website.

The auction’s launch shortly follows the announcement that the mansion is officially under contract after a private-party offer was accepted Saturday. The 40-acre estate, listed earlier this year at $6.75 million, will not be considered sold until closing is complete…
