Tarrant County College (TCC) plans to auction the 113-year-old TXU Power Plant on November 20, 2025. The college has owned the property for more than 20 years. The plant is located along the Trinity River near the proposed Panther Island redevelopment in Fort Worth, Texas. TCC acquired the site in 2004 as part of the land purchase for its TR East Campus. The power plant was built between 1911 and 1913 and began operations in December 1912. It supplied electricity to Fort Worth for over 40 years.
Since TCC bought the property, the future of the TXU Power Plant has been discussed in the community. Some local organizations and preservationists want the building to be named a historical landmark. They point to its architectural style and its role in Fort Worth’s industrial history. Susan Kline, a preservation consultant, noted the plant’s Beaux Arts design and its importance to the city’s growth.
The building has not received official historical status. Jim Hodgson, a member and former chair of the Tarrant County Historical Commission, said he is disappointed with how the college has managed the property.
