St. Landry Parish food drive aids over 50 families after SNAP benefits pause

ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) — In St. Landry Parish, a recent food drive has provided over 50 families with boxes of meals following an interruption in SNAP benefits.

Organized by Cynthia Fontenot, the community-wide effort took place at the Yambilee Building in Opelousas, where families lined up to receive food boxes and were greeted by volunteers eager to help.

“We issued boxes to people in need that had the interruption of SNAP,” said Fontenot. “We were able to give out about 50 boxes of food, and everybody was just so generous.”…
