The excitement is palpable as we watched customers walk into the Winn-Dixie soon to be Rouses on Chef Menteur Highway.
“It’s been an amazing feeling,” says Donny Rouse, CEO of Rouses. “ As I’ve been going through these stores this week, I’m getting the same reaction at all the stores. I think the customers and the employees are happy to understand what is going into their building and they’re all excited its Rouses because they know we’re a local brand, we’re family owned, and we’re going to be in the communities and support the communities where we are operating at.”
Rouse says the exit of one grocery chain was the perfect entry for the local family-owned business. The location on Chef Menteur Highway is just one of 10 grocery stores acquired by Rouses after Southeastern Grocers announced plans to leave Louisiana, leaving many to wonder what would happen to the Winn Dixie grocery store in New Orleans East.
