Man admits to fatal 2023 shooting during attempted drug deal

ST. LOUIS — A 31-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday in connection with a deadly 2023 shooting.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Missouri, Trevon Carson admitted to firing the shot that killed a man on May 23, 2023. The press release did not identify the man, but police identified him days after the shooting as 22-year-old Erik Alford-Smith.

According to the release, Alford-Smith was planning to buy marijuana in an alley behind Farlin Avenue and then resell it later. Prosecutors said Alford-Smith was armed with an AR-style gun while he and Carson drove to a meeting spot in the alley…
