As East Baton Rouge Parish officials brace for hundreds of layoffs to account for a budget cut by more than $15 million next year, Metro Council members pointed the finger at one of their own, accusing him of overspending his community center’s budget.
At a budget hearing held Thursday, several council members called out Darryl Hurst, as the Charles R. Kelly Community Center, which his District 5 council office oversees, spent $70,000 more than it was allotted.
“It’s just a slap in the face,” said council member Jen Racca. “Not only to us that utilize our dollars in a manner that is conservative and correct, but also to the taxpayers. And not just them, but to the 4,000 employees that are sitting there wondering whether or not they’re going to have jobs next week.”…
