Spring ISD parents express anger at feedback meetings over potential closure of Link Elementary

More than a dozen Spring ISD community members showed up at a meeting this week, expressing frustrations over the potential closure of Link Elementary.

“This isn’t just a school, this is a community school,” said Laura Chavez, whose 5-year-old son attends Link Elementary. She said that if the district closes down the school, she would move her kids out of Spring ISD.

Spring ISD has been discussing “optimization” plans since February to shut down schools due to declining student enrollment and budget deficits. At a Nov. 6 special meeting, district leaders considered closing Link Elementary and Dueitt Middle, as well as adding intervention programs to help struggling campuses that might take in displaced students.
