Shelter-in-place order lifted for Johnson County residents

NEW CENTURY, Kan. (KCTV) – A shelter-in-place order for Johnson County residents has been lifted after hazardous materials were discovered at a fire in New Century.

Johnson County, Kansas, Fire District #1 says that around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, emergency crews were called to the 300 block of Prairie Village Dr. with reports of a building fire.

When first responders arrived, they said they found smoke billowing from a commercial building. They were able to extinguish the fire, but soon learned that product inside was related to hazardous materials.
