Greeley population expected to surpass Fort Collins’ by 2026

GREELEY, Colo. (KDVR) — A new report predicts a major shake-up in the population size of two northern Colorado cities, with Greeley overtaking Fort Collins in 2026.

According to the Common Sense Institute’s analysis of the Fort Collins Metropolitan Statistical Area shows net migration dropped 26% below pre-pandemic averages. The slowed growth is attributed to high rent and home prices.

At the same time, Greeley is seeing its population boom. Analysts further predict Greeley will outpace Fort Collins by 100,000 people 25 years from now.

“I think affordability has played a huge role in people moving to Greeley. Greeley is considered an affordable community in Colorado,” Greeley City Manager Raymond Lee said. “People are looking at how can they stretch their dollar out the most and still have a high quality of life.”…
