RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Thursday morning tradition became an unforgettable celebration today at the Melvin Roads American Legion. Veterans gather every Thursday at the legion for coffee and conversation, but today was something truly special. Dominic Bersani celebrated two milestones, his 99th birthday and, at long last, received his high school diploma.
“It’s a great honor that I never expected, but appreciate,” Dominic said.
Dominic served in the Navy in World War II, and the Cold War. He left school when he was in the eighth grade, driven to follow in his father’s footsteps, and work in the shoe business. When he turned eighteen, he had a passion to serve the country, and enlisted.
