Jury deadlocks in case where deputies arrested man riding bike with no brakes

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Deputies on patrol in Oildale said they noticed a man riding a bicycle with no brakes — a vehicle code infraction. They made a U-turn and followed him.

Anthony Ortiz ignored multiple commands to stop, saying he hadn’t done anything wrong, before deputies took him into custody, according to a synopsis of the July 12, 2023, incident included in a release from the Kern County Public Defender’s Office.
