‘A big win’: Adams Co. residents relieved after dog breeding facility gets denied

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Neighbors and animal rescue services in Adams County are now relieved after the Adams County Board of Zoning Appeals denied a proposed dog breeding facility.

The applicants, Leander and Rebecca Schwartz, applied for a Development Standards Variance that would change their Per County Land Use Ordinance, allowing their commercial kennel to be as close as 341 feet to a neighboring house. The existing ordinance requires at least 1,000 feet.

Leander told WANE 15 he had always wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and breed dogs for a living. The application for the dog kennel proposed 15 female and 5 male rottweilers and boxers…
