RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – A worker for a Virginia Department of Transportation subcontractor was injured in a crash on Interstate 95 at the Parham Road overpass late Thursday.
“The preliminary investigation determined that a worker conducting an elevated bridge inspection was struck in the chest by an I-beam after the boom of an excavator being transported by a tractor-trailer struck the beam,” VDOT said in a news release.
VDOT says the driver of the tractor trailer was traveling through an active work zone while hauling an excavator with the boom in an elevated position, creating an over-height load.
