Crews from the state Department of Transportation are set to begin repaving six lanes of 19th Avenue next month, temporarily constricting a major thoroughfare just south of Golden Gate Park.
The 19th Avenue Rehabilitation Project, which starts on Dec. 1, will run from Lincoln Way in the Sunset to Holloway Avenue near San Francisco State University. That’s a distance of roughly three miles by car, or 18.8 “lane miles” — transportation-speak for the total amount of pavement affected.
Describing the project as a monumental effort to maintain a bustling corridor that’s also a state highway, Caltrans officials said they will work incrementally, always keeping one lane open in each direction.
