I Tried Costco’s Thanksgiving Pies and Ranked Them Worst to Best

When you’re that friend in the group whose literal job is taste testing, recipe experimenting and showing up with “just a few things for us to try,” every gathering turns into a bit of a food review. Lucky for me, my crew is always excited to hop in and help. During a recent weekend trip to Sonoma County with friends, I struck gold while walking the aisles of the local Costco: all three of their famous Thanksgiving pies were finally in stock! So naturally, I rolled up to our afternoon wine tasting fully prepared. Because really, what better way to ease into Thanksgiving mode than with wine glasses in hand, some fall sunshine, and a crew large enough to actually finish these warehouse-size desserts?!The apple pie, pumpkin pie and pecan pie all come in the signature Costco pie container, and are a size that could feed a small village (or, in our case, the long-weekend crew). We sliced, compared and debated between sips of Sonoma sparkling wine and bites of flaky crust.As we tasted our way through these jumbo desserts, I took everyone’s opinions into account, but ultimately, I had to settle the debate myself. I judged each pie on flavor, texture and overall Thanksgiving energy (yes, that’s a real category) to crown a winner.
