ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday that $10 million is now available for upgrades to animal shelters throughout the state. The announcement comes about a month before new regulatory standards are set to take effect for animal welfare organizations.
The funding marks the eighth round of the Companion Animal Capital Fund. Launched in 2017, the program aims to support shelters, rescues, humane societies and non-profit pounds on capital projects.
Since the Companion Animal Capital Fund’s start, 161 projects across the state — including Capital Region organizations like the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and Animal Protective Foundation — have received funding.
