BETHLEHEM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Bethlehem Central School District is considering a plan that could move hundreds of elementary students to different schools next year. Parents are speaking out about what those changes could mean for their children and their communities.

On Thursday night, Bethlehem CSD hosted a community meeting to discuss possible rezoning. There are five elementary schools that could be affected. The five schools are Eagle, Glenmont, Elsmere, Hamagrael, and Slingerlands.
According to the district, Eagle and Glenmont are near or at capacity, and the other three elementary schools’ enrollment has been declining. Thursday’s meeting was a part of a preliminary rezoning review to discuss moving students around — not a final decision. The district said that they want community feedback first.

“I wish there had been more than one community forum so like people could come together. I think it’s just confusion, fear, you know, just feeling, you know, wondering if our voices are being heard.” said Meagan Klauber, Parent of 2nd Grader at Hamagrael Elementary School.
Meagan praised Hamagrael, saying the support her son with ADHD gets has changed him — and given her family a community that feels like home. “I had a miscarriage last year. The moms rallied around me, brought me meals, you know, and so that kind of family cohesion you don’t find everywhere these days. We lived on Long Island for seven years and we never had community like that.”…
