A Jefferson man faces multiple charges after a distracted driving crash on the Thruway left another driver seriously injured Wednesday night.
New York State Police say Evan Robert Hope, 45, was behind the wheel of a 2011 Toyota SUV when he crashed into a disabled vehicle parked on the right shoulder of I-90 in the town of Guilderland. The crash happened around 7:55 p.m. on November 19, between Exits 25 and 25A.
Hope told troopers he had been checking his phone at the time of the crash. He was taken to Ellis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 2007 Kia sedan he struck was transported to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.
Hope was charged with several vehicle and traffic violations, including speeding and using a cell phone while driving. Troopers say all westbound lanes were closed for over an hour as crews worked to clear the scene. Traffic was diverted off Exit 25 during that time…
