Youth Revival is a club offered at East dedicated to spreading God’s love throughout the school and helping students grow in their faith. They meet every Wednesday at seven A.M. in room 221, where they hold a small bible study. Youth Revival also gives students the opportunity to connect with others that share the same beliefs as them.
This year’s club officers consist of juniors Lily Abele and Olivia Muffler, and senior Andrew Hill. The club’s sponsor is Julia Miller, a Spanish teacher at East High School. Miller is passionate about spreading the word of God, and is grateful for the community that the club has built. When offered the sponsor position, she didn’t hesitate to say yes.
“I have sponsored Youth Revival for many years and I don’t think it was even a difficult decision,” Miller said. “When it was offered to me, I was like for sure, I would definitely want to do this because I want to glorify God in my job and what I’m able to do here at school.”
Every week the club begins by students going around and introducing themselves by saying their name, grade, and answering a fun, get to know you question. The boys and girls then split up into their bible study groups, where they read a short scripture and answer reflection questions about it. These group discussions allow students to freely express their beliefs in school, which is otherwise difficult considering religion isn’t commonly discussed in classrooms. Knowing who shares the same beliefs can be motivating and reassuring for students; it provides students with support to continue their spiritual journey and know that they aren’t alone…
